Biography

My practice focusses on complex trusts and estates disputes, including cross-border disputes involving offshore trusts.

Representative examples of cases include:
* Pursuing a professional negligence claim against an offshore trustees’ former lawyers that drafted defective deeds resulting in failed retirements of the trustees and UK tax liabilities – the dispute was ultimately resolved by way of expert determination; also dealing with ancillary disputes arising out of the failed retirements and appointments;
* Successfully applying to set aside various court orders to permit a Guernsey trustee to defend English High Court proceedings concerning shares worth £30m, where three law firms had purported to represent the trustee in the proceedings for 3 years without the trustee’s knowledge or authority;
* Advising offshore trustees on potential steps to remedy distributions made in error;
* Advising a Guernsey trustee concerning its liability for claims by third-party professional advisers in England; and
* Acting for an individual financial adviser defendant in a group litigation action in the pensions sector.

I also have prior experience in commercial, property and public law disputes.
